A Canadian employer is bound to get an LMIA before hiring a foreign worker. This is to ensure that the entry of foreign workers doesn’t impact the Canadian labor market negatively. They are required to furnish evidence of their sincere efforts to recruit Canadian citizens or permanent residents. The employer may hire workers on high wages or low wages. For high-wage foreign workers, the employer must ensure that there’s some reduction in reliance on foreign workers. For low-wage foreign workers, the employer must pay for round-trip transportation for the non-Canadian worker, provide housing, get foreign workers covered by necessary insurance, conclude an employment contract with the foreign worker.
