Updated on June 23, 2025, at 2:06 PM EDT (Toronto local time). On June 25, 2025, the Government of Canada revised its travel advisory for Qatar, recommending that Canadians take extreme caution amid rising tensions in the Middle East after the U.S. strike on Iran’s nuclear sites. The quickly changing security landscape, along with sightings of military wreckage and the chance of disturbances, has led to increased warnings for Canadian travelers in that area. The IRGC of Iran announced a missile strike, referred to as “Annunciation of Victory,” aimed at the U.S. Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, as reported by the Tasnim news agency. This action was taken in response to U.S. attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities, with Tehran vowing to retaliate. On Monday, the skies over Doha, the capital of Qatar, were illuminated by flares and accompanied by loud explosions, although it remains uncertain if these were caused by missile impacts or the functioning of air defense systems. Qatar is home to one of the largest U.S. military deployments in the region, alongside other nations like Bahrain, Kuwait, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia. Al Udeid plays a pivotal role in air operations, logistics, and intelligence, making it a significant target amidst escalating tensions. In the lead-up to the attack, Qatar closed its airspace and canceled flights. The Qatari Foreign Ministry stated, “We view this as a serious violation of Qatar’s sovereignty, its airspace, international law, and the United Nations charter.” The warning has been issued due to the unstable Iran-Israel conflict that has prompted significant safety worries throughout the Middle East. On June 23, 2025, the U.S. Embassy in Doha released a security notice advising American citizens to “stay indoors until further notice” as a precaution. Incidents of military debris landing in various locations in the region have intensified concerns about: Limitations or shutdowns at borders. Flight disruptions. Restrictions on air traffic. The current disruptions could greatly affect travel arrangements, potentially leaving Canadians stuck in Qatar or other impacted locations. The Canadian government has cautioned that the security situation may worsen unexpectedly, urging travelers to remain alert and keep an eye on local and international news for any updates. On June 22, 2025, Qatar Airways, a key international airline, reported that it has adjusted its flight schedule to maintain network stability during the crisis. Some flights might depart sooner than originally scheduled, so passengers are highly recommended to verify their flight statuses through qatarairways.
